Downloading Modules in Brightspace

Updated on

The first step towards success in your class is learning how to navigate Brightspace. Finding what you need each week can be a challenge when course materials are not all in one place. By downloading the module content from Brightspace onto your computer, you can organize the week’s material in a way that makes sense to you.

Note: As a student, you are expected to be an active participant in your class. Be sure to regularly check Brightspace for announcements from your instructor, assignment feedback, and class discussions.

    1.     Access the week’s content through Course Menu > Learning Modules.

2.    Under the Module title, click the cloud icon that says “Download."

3.     Right-click on the file to “Extract All” and name it so it’s easy to find (Course Name and Module Number).

4.     Click on your Discussion. Use the “Print” shortcut (Ctrl+P on Windows, Cmd+P on Mac) to save the page as a PDF. Save that file to the module folder.

5.     For Assignments, click the “guidelines and rubric” link. Click the arrow pointing down next to the assignment title and click “Download."

6.     Extract this file to the original folder by clicking “Browse” and selecting the module folder.

7.     The folder will now include HTML files (plain text versions of webpages including links) for the entire Module. It will also include files you can download from those pages (like templates and supporting materials) in a “course_documents” folder.

8.     Rename and organize these folders however you choose. Example: Class Folder > Module Folders > Resources, Assignment, and Discussion folders. Save your work in the corresponding folder. We suggest moving files from “course_documents” to their respective assignment folders and placing a copy of the Module Resources in each so everything you need is in one place.
