How to Book ASC Sessions & Retrieve Recordings

Updated on

Overview:

SNHU’s Academic Support Center (ASC) is here to help your journey as a student in many ways. We strive to offer services that work for everyone. We offer 24/7 drop-in tutoring and written feedback for those who have a quick question or who prefer to learn independently.

There are some situations, though, where synchronous or live sessions with a Coach or Learning Support Specialist would be preferred. That’s when group events (like Workshops and Office Hours) or 1:1 sessions are the right fit for you.

This guide will show you, step by step, how to enter the Academic Support Center (ASC) in Brightspace and book appointments.

1. Finding the ASC:

You must be currently enrolled in a course to use the ASC. For an overview of Brightspace, click here to view a video overview of the SNHU learning environment. Or, you can go directly to your course in Brightspace and click “Academic Support” on the top navigation bar, as shown below:

2. The ASC Homepage:

On the ASC Homepage, you will see our services in the top toolbar. Current services include: 24/7 Drop-In Tutoring, Workshops, Office Hours, Peer Groups, Written Feedback, Academic Coaching, and the Academic Resource Center. Navigate between them to learn more and utilize the services. To learn more about the different types of group sessions, click here.

Once you book sessions, using the directions below, your future sessions will populate on the Homepage. Navigate to the homepage 5 minutes before the session starts, then select the green "Launch" button to open the session.

3. Group Sessions:

To book a Workshop, Office Hours, or Peer Group session, click “Workshops & Office Hours". From this page, you can search keywords that interest you, type in your current class to see if there is an option that matches, and hover over titles for descriptions of each event.

Click "Book Now" to schedule the workshop. It will also appear on the Home page to launch.

You can also select "Launch" to enter a session that is currently running at any time.

4. Academic Coaching for 1:1 Support:

Academic Coaches can assist you with a variety of skills, such as time and task prioritization, reading comprehension, organization, and more. Once you select the "Academic Coaching" tab, first choose which skills you'd like to improve, then narrow your search to one coach or all coaches. Finally, a calendar icon will appear with options that meet the criteria you've selected. Once you find the right fit, click the orange "Book this Session" button to schedule with a coach.

5. Where to Find Recordings of Your Previous Sessions:

On your ASC toolbar, navigate to "My Account" then select "Previous Sessions" to find recordings of any Academic Support session that you've booked. Keep in mind that you will still receive recordings of Workshops and Office Hours sessions you signed up for but did not attend live. Recordings typically become available in this folder within 12 hours of the session's conclusion, but it may take up to 24 hours.

Once you find the session that you'd like to watch, press the "Replay" button:
