24/7 Drop-In
24/7 Drop-in Tutoring provides support to students who need immediate help.
Academic Support works with Tutor.com as a host to ensure a positive SNHU student experience.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
When selecting their topic and subject, students are encouraged to consider the skill they need help with rather than defaulting to their course topic.
If a tutor for the subject needed is not available, it will not appear on the drop-down list. Check back at a later day and time to see additional subject options.
The 24/7 Drop-In is a chat conversation. There is not an option for video conferencing.
Past sessions are recorded and accessible under the drop-in form so learners can revisit and refresh on previous sessions they have attended.
Workshops
Workshops are pre-scheduled group events hosted by a Peer Tutor or an Academic Coach. They enable students to join their peers for an interactive, skill-specific 45-minute lesson where they can ask questions and share their work. There are also Office Hours workshops where students can drop in to have their questions answered in real-time for a specific subject. There are three different kinds to choose.
- Workshops: Workshops are scheduled sessions that happen weekly and are focused on one topic. This is a group session for specific instruction. You will have the opportunity to ask questions based on the presentation.
- Office Hours: Office Hours are scheduled sessions that happen weekly to give you the opportunity to get tutoring help quickly without having to wait for a 1:1 appointment. You can drop in and ask questions about specific coursework related to a broad topic.
- Peer Groups: Peer Groups are scheduled group sessions for you to share your academic experiences. Whether you are new to SNHU or would like to learn how to thrive as a student, peer groups give you the opportunity to meet others and build your community.
Students can sign up for them in advance. All workshops, office hours, and peer groups available will populate for the next three days. To filter the results, type keywords into the search bar. Key words can include (but are not limited to) office hours, day or time, peer group, APA, Math, etc. They can also review the recording of previous workshops they've attended under the scheduling tool.
*If a student cannot attend the workshop, they can sign up for it regardless and the recording will be available to them in their previous recordings.
Written Feedback
Written Feedback enables students to fill out a form describing what they're working on and what they need help with, attach their writing piece, and receive feedback within 12 hours. The accepted file formats are: doc, docx, txt. The maximum file size is 5MB. *For all other file formats, such as ppt, please use the Drop-in 24/7 service option.
Written Feedback is not a proofreading or correction service. It is guided feedback that teaches students how to build their writing skills. It offers practical revision strategies that focus on high-level writing skills. Resources are offered to enhance student's ability. For example, students won't receive feedback just telling where to put the comma, but they may receive more in-depth feedback on how to use commas.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Encourage students to submit only the portion of the paper they need support with as full papers may not be reviewed fully within the 12-hour turn-around period.
After a student fills out the form and clicks submit, they are prompted to remove personal information from their uploaded work for privacy protection.
Underneath the submission form, there is a Previous Feedback section where learners' feedback populates once it has been completed. They receive an email directing them to this area when their feedback is ready to view.
Scheduled Support
Peer Tutor 1:1: Students can self-schedule with peer tutors. This service offers students a 45-minute session with an SNHU Peer Tutor for the future, and appointments can be booked once every 72 hours. If a session is unavailable for the time the student needs, they are directed to 24/7 Drop-in Tutoring as a backup.
Peer Tutors are students hired by Academic Support to help other students with course content. They focus on building skills in specific areas, such as History, Business, Math, English, and many more. Peer Tutors often have experience in the courses the learner needs help with. They offer students a judgment-free environment where they can seek support with specific course content.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
There isn't a peer tutor for every single SNHU course. However, peer tutors support learning outcomes and learning strategies that can be applied to multiple courses in a subject area on a broader scale.
Academic Coach 1:1: Students will self-schedule appointments using the criteria shown below. This service is a more tailored experience for the student.
Academic Coaches are goal-based. Students develop a plan with a coach to help them with their personal skill development versus specific course content. Academic Coaches are ideal for students with previous IEPs, learning differences, anxiety, high-stress situations at home, or who do not have much experience being a student. The six goals the coaches work toward are time and task prioritization, reading comprehension, organization, critical thinking and problem-solving, support for learning differences, and strengthening academic skills. The students will choose their goals initially, and the coach will assess if an additional or different goal is needed. All coaching sessions start with the initial session plus three additional pre-scheduled sessions. The coach and student will discuss the need for another three sessions at the end of the three sessions. The process is repeated until the intended goals are achieved.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Our students must understand they will not encounter a SNHU instructor in our coaching sessions. Coaching sessions are designed to improve student's soft skills and differ from peer tutor sessions focusing on course content.
