(Español) Discussion Boards (with Video)

English:

The discussion board is your opportunity to engage with your classmates and instructor about a specific topic each week.

Discussion boards can be accessed in a couple of ways within your learning environment.

You can find them within the Module Content, or you can click on “Course Menu” to access “Discussion Boards” directly.

Once in the discussion board area, you’ll see the “General Questions Forum” where you can post concerns or questions that may apply to the entire class.

Underneath you’ll see “Module Discussions” where there is a list of all discussion topics, with the number of threads for that topic, the total number of posts within that topic, and the number of unread posts.

If you are starting a new discussion thread, click the “Start a New Thread” button.

We recommend writing your post in a separate word document, then copying and pasting your work into the large text box on your screen – just in case you get logged out of the system. Don’t forget to enter a subject line for your new thread right above that text box.

You can add attachments to your discussion board via the “Add Attachments” link underneath,

The “subscribe to this thread” checkbox will provide you with notifications when people respond to your discussion thread. Click the post button to post your initial discussion.

When crafting your post, you have some great tools available to help you.

The “Insert Stuff” button provides you with options for including videos, YouTube content, hyperlinks, and more.

You also have tools to check your spelling before you post, and an accessibility checker to ensure that the content in your post is accessible to all students reviewing it.

To respond to a peer’s discussion board post, you can click on the “Reply to Thread” button at the top and bottom of a discussion thread, or you can use the “Reply” link after anyone’s post within that thread to respond directly to that posting.

You’ll use the same content editor to type your response as you did for your initial post.

If you need to edit a post after you’ve submitted it, you can click on the drop-down arrow next to your name on a thread and click the “Edit Post” option.

This will re-open the text editor and allow you to make changes.

Your syllabus can provide you with more information regarding SNHU’s expectations for discussion board participation, such as when you’ll need to post your initial thread and the number of classmates you’ll need to post responses to. As a reminder, don’t post your threads until the first day of the term – otherwise it won’t count for credit.
